About UsThroughout time, artists have created models of people, animals and craft, to decorate temples, palaces, and homes. Today’s miniature modelers strive to represent a variety of subjects in the most realistic manner possible by sharing their skills and learning from others. SCAHMS provides a forum for that exchange, as well as fellowship with other artists in a setting that is social, entertaining, and educational.
Our HistoryThe Southern California Area Historical Miniature Society was formed in 1984 by Don Freeman, Bill Horan, Steve Sexton, and Brian Stewart for the purpose of providing a venue for California modelers to gather and share ideas and techniques, and to establish an annual show where modelers from across the nation, and around the world can meet and display their work in an atmosphere of fellowship and friendly competition.
SCAHMS members include such renowned artists as Bill Horan, Steve Weakley, Mike Good, John Rosengrant, Tim Flagstad, and Dave Kennedy, just to name a few, as well as many rising talents in the hobby.
SCAHMS meets the second Friday of every month at the Danish Lutheran Church & Cultural Center, in Yorba Linda. Doors open around 6:30pm, and the meeting lasts until 9:30. Each meeting features guest speakers presenting demonstrations of modeling techniques, living history, slide shows from recent events, and other topics related to miniatures. There is also time to display and discuss your latest project or work-in-progress, with friendly and knowledgeable members. Admission of $5 enters guests in the nightly door prize drawing, and raffle tickets for additional prizes are available for purchase to support the club.
The Westerner is SCAHMS monthly newsletter, with reports of club events, news, modeling tips and articles. The Westerner may be delivered to members through email, or regular postal delivery.
Upcoming ShowsThe California Show, which takes place every March, is SCAHMS’ showcase for the work of its members and visitors, and well as a social gathering, and marketplace for modeling related merchandise. Exhibitors display their work, and may participate in friendly competition, where their skill is judged by panels of accomplished modelers.
